Terms and Conditions

1. Acceptance

By creating and using an account on Starlight Library, you agree to these Terms and Conditions and our Privacy and Communication Consent terms.

2. Account information

You confirm that the information you provide is accurate, current, and belongs to you. You agree to keep your profile details updated when they change.

3. Membership roles

Villagers may browse and borrow books according to membership and library rules. Book Dragons may also offer books for contribution, subject to library review and intake rules.

4. Borrowing and returns

Loan periods, limits, and return requirements are set by Starlight Library and may be updated from time to time. You are responsible for returning books on time and in acceptable condition.

All members agree to care for books as shared community treasures. The following are not permitted:

• Folding page corners.
• Annotations, highlights, underlining, or writing of any kind.
• Stickers, labels, sticky notes, tape, or adhesive marks.
• Ripping, tearing, cutting, or removing pages.

A late fee of R10 per day applies to overdue books.

If these care rules are violated, the member may be charged a damage fee based on the extent of the damage and the cost to repair or replace the item.

5. Book contributions

Contributed books may be accepted, declined, or removed from circulation at staff discretion based on catalog fit, condition, or operational needs.

6. Book Dragon-specific terms

In addition to all general member rules, Book Dragons agree to the following:

• I give Starlight Library permission to mark my books with the library's mark.
• I understand the library will do everything in its power to protect my books, but normal wear may occur.
• If my contributed book is lost or damaged beyond reasonable repair while borrowed, I will choose either: (a) allow the library to replace the copy and return it to me, or (b) donate that title to the library permanently. This decision is made jointly by the library and the Book Dragon.
• I may recall my book at any time. If the book is currently checked out, I understand it will be returned to me once the current loan is completed and the book is checked back in.
• I understand that no dust jackets will be accepted with contributed books.
• I may choose where my contributed books are kept — either at the library, or at my own home. If I choose to keep them at home, I understand I may need to play a role in the delivery or return of those books.

7. Communication consent

You consent to staff contacting you using your provided details for account support, membership administration, lending and return reminders, queue notifications, contribution updates, and important service notices.

8. Proper use

You agree not to misuse the platform, interfere with operations, provide false information, or use another person’s account.

9. Suspension or termination

Starlight Library may suspend or close accounts for rule violations, non-compliance, fraud, abuse, or other harmful conduct.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Continued use of the platform after updates means you accept the revised terms.
